ABOUT SCratch & Slip
Andrew (scratch) and Tina (slip) met in their shared hometown of Liberty, Missouri. Tina (59) helps Andrew (29) and severely autistic, to channel his creative passion into pottery creations completely unique to him. When Andew’s mom first asked Tina to help mentor Andrew, he was having trouble preventing his clay animals from breaking. Tina taught him the potting technique of scratching (scoring the clay) and slipping (adding water) to get the clay to hold together effectively. She repeats this instruction endlessly throughout their creative sessions in her basement studio. Thus was born their “business” name. Their simple story is a testament to the world of who those with autism cannot be underestimated and are able to live a full, capable life.
